In Tuscany a relevant experience in the study of mining activities and their relation with the historical settlement pattern has gone consolidating through the researches undertaken by prof. Riccardo Francovich and the Department of Archaeology and History of Arts at the University of Siena; the same researches have evidenced the necessity of a careful management of the archaeological record. In the northern part of the Colline Metallifere (Livorno province) the Archaeological-Mining Park of Rocca San Silvestro is preserving a territory rich of outstanding archaeological remains related to pre-industrial and industrial processes, and with it the mining village of Rocca San Silvestro. To the south, in Grosseto Province, the Technological and Archaeological Park of the Colline Metallifere Grossetane has been recently instituted with the aim of preserving and enhancing the outstanding archaeological record highlighted through 20 years of investigations.
