This paper proposes the use of network coding in handover strategies applied in Smart Gateway Diversity (SGD) architectures, in order to mitigate information losses usually experienced by traditional handover techniques. The focus is actually about the benefit resulting from network coding application in terms of improved transmission robustness at the cost of reasonable satellite capacity waste.
