Il ruolo dell'università di Siena nell'ambito delle ricerche sul Paleolitico italiano

The Author provides a modern evaluation (stressing some issues and perspectives) of the “history” of the University of Siena’s research team, which was formed by A. Palma di Cesnola at the end of the sixties. Since this period this group has been actively engaged in several scientific publications (including syntheses and internationally recognized monographs) and in fieldwork at many important prehistoric sites. Some of these sites yielded stratigraphical sequences, which are of fundamental importance for reconstructing environmental changes and evolutionary dynamics of the human groups who inhabited Italy during the Middle-Upper Pleistocene.
