A survey of Apuleius' usage of the terms prudentia and providentia in the Metamorphoses. Their distribution suggests a very pointed use of providentia in Book XI, the book of Isis. Analysis of the philosophical and political overtones of Apuleius' treatment of the theme of providentia, and of its consequences for a general interpretation of the novel.
