This paper proposes a partial unification of this derivational option discussed in Cinque (1999) moving chunks of the clause structure with the operation labelled “smuggling”, the device recently proposed by Chris Collins (Collins 2005, 2006), which allows the avoidance of minimality violations in passive and raising constructions. We discuss certain cases of smuggling moving verbal chunks in passive, and also extend the technique to the analysis of psych-verbs.

Abstract
This paper proposes a partial unification of this derivational option discussed in Cinque (1999) moving chunks of the clause structure with the operation labelled “smuggling”, the device recently proposed by Chris Collins (Collins 2005, 2006), which allows the avoidance of minimality violations in passive and raising constructions. We discuss certain cases of smuggling moving verbal chunks in passive, and also extend the technique to the analysis of psych-verbs.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
