Using the famous werewolf novella in Petronius’ Satyricon as a starting point, this paper examines the presence (or absence) of werewolf-related types or motifs in antiquity through comparison with modern folktales. This provides a bet ter understanding of Petronius’ authorial choices and expands our knowledge of ancient narrative culture.
