Cosmetic compositions are described comprising combined sunscreens and a water-soluble melanin obtained by enzymatic oxidation of a melanin precursor, preferably selected from gentisic acid, homogentisic acid or mixtures thereof. The combined sunscreens are preferably organic and more preferred combinations thereof are described in the specification. The invention is also directed to a method of preparation of said cosmetic compositions and to the use of said water-soluble melanin as a SPF booster for a cosmetic composition comprising two or more sunscreen.
