Jean Denis Attiret is part of the European group which operates at the Imperial Court of Qian Long (r. 1735 – 1796), remembered as a great lover of art. This article aims to illustrate how Attiret was skillful in obtaining admiration and goodwill within an imperial circle, representing the highest expression of Chinese culture at that time. The article also intends to emphasize that the French painter showed extreme adaptability to the new environment and a culture so different from his own.
