I procedimenti della pittura negli scritti di Leonardo: per una storia del lessico tecnico

Starting from Leonardo's writings and through 16th-century literary sources, some significant terms of Leonardo's painting technique were considered, as well as the transformations it solicited in the artists that followed: drafting/drafting, polishing/polishing, mixing/mixing/mixing, imprimatura, dusting, smoking/blowing, veiling/veiling. An attempt has been made to trace their origin and fortune in texts dealing with the practice of art, in order to understand the roots and consequences of the underlying aesthetic instances. The analysis of the sources is accompanied by a commentary on more recent historiography, re-examining some interpretations, sometimes controversial, of texts and documents.

A partire dagli scritti di Leonardo e attraverso le fonti letterarie cinquecentesche si sono presi in considerazione alcuni termini significativi della tecnica pittorica leonardesca e delle trasformazioni che sollecita negli artisti che seguiranno - bozza/bozzare, lucido/lucidare, misti/mistione/mestica, imprimatura, spolverezzo, fumo/sfumare, velare/velatura - cercando di seguirne origine e fortuna nei testi che trattano la pratica dell'arte, per cogliervi le radici e le conseguenze delle istanze estetiche sottese. All'analisi delle fonti si affianca un commento della storiografia più recente, riesaminando alcune interpretazioni, talora controverse, di testi e documenti.
