Public and private sphere in transnational space: gender, policy and social action between Europe and Latin America The governance of cultural diversity is a key issue for contemporary Europe and Latin America. Being able to handle the increased cultural diversity, by harmonizing the recognition of diversity and the promotion of equal participation in the common public space is a challenge, for now, still not resolved. In the context of the Multilevel Governance of Cultural Diversity project (GOVDIV Project), funded through the European Programme for Research Marie Curie, in this first issue of the review some political models for the integration of migrants and minorities are analysed, addressing the debate between assimilation and multiculturalism in Europe and Latin America. Some contributions are meant to enhance the state of the art and the theoretical framework for interdisciplinary research on these important issues, trying to contribute to a comparative approach.
