Food supply is a fundamental human need but nourishing activities per se are not particularly important in historical, archaeological or literary terms. On the other side, the different uses in transforming and cooking food, its consumption’s modalities and rituals, are tightly linked to identities of individuals and human groups. In the following paper, those considerations will be highlighted through some examples related to alimentary behaviours and uses in South Italy and Sicily from the Archaic to the Hellenistic periods.
