The essay presents a research that investigated a specific context of intercultural coexistence that relates to some regional trains operating in Tuscany (Italy). The objects of the research were conversations, interactions (verbal, paraverbal and non-verbal) and the spatial positions assumed between some railway professionals (inspectors, cleaners, conductors, reception staff) and immigrant travelers (mainly North Africans) who traveled the indicated railway section every day. The conflicts that emerged between the various protagonists, as well as their narratives and the positions defended, show how important it is today to measure the distance between the representations of the Other and the daily practices implemented, to probe the emotions that accompany the inter-ethnic encounter and guide mutual perception, comparing different ethics that become behaviors and attitudes, opportunities for confrontation. It is common, when leaving a space, to be confronted with difference - however irritating, incomprehensible or conflicting this confrontation may prove to be - it can contribute to the construction of an alternative representation of immigration compared to the one socially dominant today, placing it in a framework that appears as institutional as it is professional and social. From the point of view of the railway professionals involved, in fact, the "liquidity" of our current societies requires the encouragement of reflective devices that allow them to enhance the role of practice in the processes of building knowledge, focusing on what they do and produce, thus attributing particular relevance to work experience when it makes it possible to thematize professional knowledge as empirically situated knowledge. This double bond reminds us how much knowledge is a resource of flexible adaptation, of the ability to learn from experience and to solve new problems, and how much human cultures are not clearly circumscribable and stable entities but continuously shared, contested and negotiated narratives.

Abstract
This double bond reminds us how much knowledge is a resource of flexible adaptation, of the ability to learn from experience and to solve new problems, and how much human cultures are not clearly circumscribable and stable entities but continuously shared, contested and negotiated narratives.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
