Human activities such as urban and industrial development or agricultural practices can be classified as landscape disturbance and can be detected and tracked through remote sensing analysis at different temporal and spatial scales. This chapter presents an experimental study following a feature-based approach for building detection, time-tracking of a construction site and changed area estimation at a large, regional scale. The complementary characteristics of the multispectral Sentinel-2 images on the same area can eventually be exploited to estimate the extension of the urban transformation detected by the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensors. The key idea is to use the SAR data to obtain a robust change map for the detection of built-up structures and then to recover geometrical details on the optical data. Sentinel-1 images are collected with several different instrument configurations and resolutions, with both ascending and descending orbits.
