The extraordinary diffusion of the employment of the containers has revolutionized the sectors of logistic and transports at a global level. Answering to standardization and efficiency requirements of international commerce, containers facilitated the growth of global trade and fostered a general reduction of transports-related costs. Each year about 108 million cargo containers are transported through seaports entailing the risks related to illicit trafficking and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazard (CBRN). In order to face the threat of CBRN risks associated to the movement of containers, globally dedicated procedures aimed at collecting data, identifying risk sources and establishing of intervention are necessary. This volume sets for itself the goal of facing technical, technological, regulatory, and political profiles connected to the movement of containers with the aim of increasing public awareness as well as offering effective instruments of comprehension and action in this sector.
