After having briefly dealt with the role of Heracles and his twelve labours in Greek tragedy and comedy, the article surveys the most significant operatic works that tell the story of his peculiar relation with Omphale, Queen of Lydia, whom the hero was obliged to serve for one whole year. Among these musical pieces, a peculiar attention will be given to the opéra-bouffe Les travaux d’Hercule, composed by Claude Terrasse upon a libretto by de Flers e de Caillavet, first produced in Paris in 1901.

Abstract
After having briefly dealt with the role of Heracles and his twelve labours in Greek tragedy and comedy, the article surveys the most significant operatic works that tell the story of his peculiar relation with Omphale, Queen of Lydia, whom the hero was obliged to serve for one whole year. Among these musical pieces, a peculiar attention will be given to the opéra-bouffe Les travaux d’Hercule, composed by Claude Terrasse upon a libretto by de Flers e de Caillavet, first produced in Paris in 1901.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
