The principle of integration is a well-established principle of environmental law. The aim of the present chapter is to examine this principle under international law as well as under European Union Law. In particular, firstly the analysis will focus on how the principle has emerged and evolved in the two legal contexts under examination; secondly, it will address its scope, nature and main features and thirdly, it will point out the possible way ahead for the principle, by looking in particular at a new tendency emerging at international level, namely the progressive integration of the sustainable development and climate change agendas.
