The volume takes into consideration the dated, documented and stamped silver works produced in Siena between the 18th and 19th centuries. Both profane objects, such as tableware, from cutlery to coffee pots, both ecclesiastical, such as chalices, reliquaries, monstrances, tabernacles, etc. To date, there is no complete and meticulous study, equipped with a vast documentary apparatus, on the Sienese goldsmith's art of the Seventeenth and Nineteenth centuries, a sector that is little studied and believed to be much minor compared to other much more famous and sufficiently investigated manufactures such Milan, Rome, Genoa, Naples, Venice and in Tuscany Florence and Lucca. The aim of the book is therefore to accurately and scientifically document the works, types, trademarks, goldsmiths and workshops operating in Siena during those centuries. A vast material, largely unpublished, which opens a window on a completely unknown world, consisting of a rich production and numerous important manufactures.
