Mobilizing payments within the European Union framework: a legal analysis

This chapters examines mobile payment services within the European Union framework. In the European Union, policymakers are developing a process of integration to build up a single payment area. this process is based on self-regulation under the umbrella of the European Payment Council and the institutional sources of law. This paper aims to analyse the regulatory actions taken to tackle with the provision of mobile payment services and ascertain to which extent the general framework for payment services is also applicable to m-payments and mobile payment service providers.
