It is estimated that every year about four million people are victims of human trafficking worldwide. About 1.2 million of them are children. Migrant children are probably the most disadvantaged category of migrants, and many of them are illegally exploited in economic activities. Although in international law some rules exist to provide for their protection, at present they are not sufficient to make this protection effective.
