This paper examines the three proemial pieces of the Bissula (a prose epistle to the dedicatee and two short poems). It shows how Ausonius rewrites in an original way both the topos of the playful poetic libellus, whose fate depends on a patron-garantor, and the apology of lascivious verses, combining epigrammatic vocabulary and images with subtle allusions to other 'minor' genres (comedy and satire). In particular, behind the hidden poematia that make their author blush (revealing his senile passion for the beautiful Swabian girl), we can see between the lines the self-ironic image of the ridiculus senex of comedy, to whose language and meter Biss. 1 alludes. On the other hand, the oneiric ending in Biss. 2 brings the compromising libellus back to the purely fictitious dimension of a literary game, depriving it of any autobiographical reference.
