This paper discusses two types of focus fronting in Italian, conveying a corrective and a 'mirative' import respectively. Building on Bianchi & Frascarelli (2009), it argues that because of these interpretive imports, the structure can only occur in root clauses or in 'root-like' embedded clauses whose propositional content can potentially update the discourse context.
