A conventional biomarker, the mixed function oxidase (MFO), was used in skin biopsy specimens from free-ranging Mediterranean cetaceans obtained by a non-invasive method. Organochlorine contaminants (DDTs and PCBs) were evaluated in subcutaneous blubber. Significant differences in organochlorine bioaccumulation and BPMO activity were found between the two suborders of cetaceans: odontocetes and mysticetes.

Abstract
A conventional biomarker, the mixed function oxidase (MFO), was used in skin biopsy specimens from free-ranging Mediterranean cetaceans obtained by a non-invasive method. Organochlorine contaminants (DDTs and PCBs) were evaluated in subcutaneous blubber.
