The Impact of the Financial Crisis on the Italian written Constitution

The financial crisis that struck the Euro-zone in 2008 and which reached its peak in 2011 has not only affected the economic arena, but has also had highly relevant consequences at constitutional level in most of the countries affected. This is something of a novelty, if we compare today’s crisis with previous ones, and it is linked, directly or indirectly, to what can be considered the main new feature of the crisis, namely, the role played by the supranational actors, and above all, the European Union (EU). In fact, since the establishment of the Economic and Monetary Union, many financial and economic functions are the province of the EU. However, as far as constitutional and institutional reforms are concerned, the EU lacks any kind of jurisdiction, and national governments are still required to enact EU reforms.
