This paper discusses the ability of repeated CCD images of the same star fields taken with CCD to discover new variable stars. It results that more than 90% of variable stars brighter than 12 magnitude have not yet been discovered. Here we propose a project to search for new variable stars down to magnitude 15 using instruments with diameter equal or greater than 8 inch and amateur CCD to perform such survey: applying a median filter through 3 consecutive images, slightly shifted among them, an accurate survey avoiding mistakes can be performed.

Abstract
This paper discusses the ability of repeated CCD images of the same star fields taken with CCD to discover new variable stars. It results that more than 90% of variable stars brighter than 12 magnitude have not yet been discovered. Here we propose a project to search for new variable stars down to magnitude 15 using instruments with diameter equal or greater than 8 inch and amateur CCD to perform such survey: applying a median filter through 3 consecutive images, slightly shifted among them, an accurate survey avoiding mistakes can be performed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
