This chapter provides an analysis of EC External Relations in the environmental field. It is divided into three parts. The first part provides general analysis of the EC external relations matter. It then analyses the specific case of the EC external relations in the environmental field. The second and third parts of the chapter present two case studies, where the interplay between the EC external dimension and the related relevant internal dimension are analysed. The first case study deals with the ‘trade and environment’ field, whereas the second one focuses on the climate change sector. The chapter ends with some brief remarks on the possibility that the EC should investigate the possibility of proposing/imposing its environmental standards and rules on third countries, under an ‘environmental conditionality’ approach.
