Pharmacokinetic analysis in small animals can be improved by repeatedly collecting blood through a superficial cut on their tail with a heparinized glass capillary. The plasma obtained by centrifugation is spotted on blotted paper. A disc is punched from the spot and placed on an agar plate for the microbiological assay. The results of a kinetic analysis of sisomycin sulfate in rats and in mice have been compared by this method, which yields a complete set of data from each animal, or by a method which uses one animal for each determination. The method allows the same amount of accurate and reproducible data to be obtained using fewer animals.

Abstract
Pharmacokinetic analysis in small animals can be improved by repeatedly collecting blood through a superficial cut on their tail with a heparinized glass capillary. The plasma obtained by centrifugation is spotted on blotted paper. A disc is punched from the spot and placed on an agar plate for the microbiological assay. The results of a kinetic analysis of sisomycin sulfate in rats and in mice have been compared by this method, which yields a complete set of data from each animal, or by a method which uses one animal for each determination. The method allows the same amount of accurate and reproducible data to be obtained using fewer animals.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
