The present work aims – in the form of a critical notice - to shed new light on both Hector-Neri Castañeda’s various contributions to themes and arguments traditionally (mostly) ascribed to “Continental” philosophy, especially in theoretic philosophy, and the wider influence of his general systematic philosophy on the development of European philosophy up to the present day. But I shall consider also present "analytic" philosophy, and formal semantics, in which his works are still influential, emphasizing a historical perspective that is much needed in this case, for the understanding of both research programs, apparently unrelated to the main tradition. His seminal works on the analytic – and conceptual - understanding of consciousness, and self-consciousness, also in connection to indexicality and what he called “quasi-indexicality”, are thus shown to be of particular relevance and interest in both respects, and also for the general history of philosophy.

Abstract
The present work aims – in the form of a critical notice - to shed new light on both Hector-Neri Castañeda’s various contributions to themes and arguments traditionally (mostly) ascribed to “Continental” philosophy, especially in theoretic philosophy, and the wider influence of his general systematic philosophy on the development of European philosophy up to the present day. But I shall consider also present "analytic" philosophy, and formal semantics, in which his works are still influential, emphasizing a historical perspective that is much needed in this case, for the understanding of both research programs, apparently unrelated to the main tradition. His seminal works on the analytic – and conceptual - understanding of consciousness, and self-consciousness, also in connection to indexicality and what he called “quasi-indexicality”, are thus shown to be of particular relevance and interest in both respects, and also for the general history of philosophy.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
