Le tombeau du socinianisme

Published at the end of 1686, the Tombeau du socinianisme is a testimony of great interest on the metamorphosis of anti-trinitarianism after the expulsion of the socinians from Poland and the publication in Holland of the Bibliotheca Fratrum Polonorum (1665-1668). In the pages of Aubert de Versé the reader is confronted with the alternatives in which the heirs of the Socinian tradition struggled in the years marked by the new philosophies of Spinoza, Locke and Bayle. This is the first edition of the text after the original of 1686 and the only one to offer an accurate historical and critical overview of the work. The introduction and the notes accompanying the text allow us to place it in the author's tormented life and to illuminate an important area of religious dissent and free thought in the last decades of the 17th century.

Apparso alla fine del 1686, il Tombeau du socinianisme è una testimonianza di grande interesse sulle metamorfosi dell’antitrinitarismo dopo la cacciata dei sociniani dalla Polonia e la pubblicazione in Olanda della Bibliotheca Fratrum Polonorum (1665-1668). Nelle pagine di Aubert de Versé il lettore si trova di fronte le alternative in cui si dibattevano gli eredi della tradizione sociniana negli anni segnati dalle nuove filosofie di Spinoza, Locke e Bayle. La presente è la prima edizione del testo dopo quella originale del 1686 e l'unica ad offrire un accurato inquadramento storico e critico dell'opera: l’introduzione e le note che accompagnano il testo consentono di ricollocarlo nella tormentata vicenda dell’autore e di illuminare un’area importante del dissenso religioso e del libero pensiero negli ultimi decenni del XVII secolo.
